Bomb explodes at eBay's PayPal headquarters on Halloween night

The headquarters of eBay, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:EBAY) PayPal division was apparently bombed on Halloween night, as the San Jose, California headquarters was partially evacuated after four plate-glass windows were blown out and police became immediately involved.

Investigators on the scene apparently were able to determine that the bomb blast was intentional. The blast was caused by an explosive device being placed outside an exit at the building that leads to the company's first floor network operations center.

Although PayPal's business operations were not disrupted, the building was closed yesterday and cordoned off by police tape. Roughly 1,900 eBay and PayPal employees working in the building that was targeted were asked to work from home or at another eBay campus in San Jose, according to reports.

It's certainly a relief to hear that nobody was hurt, but it remains to be seen what the motive behind the explosion was and the effect the bomber wanted to have. Perhaps someone tired of PayPal's fee structure? Who knows.
